How to Prepare for Your First Clinical Facial in the Quad Cities

Booking your first professional clinical facial is an exciting step toward healthier, more radiant skin. However, if you've never had one before, you might be wondering what to expect and how to prepare.

Whether you're visiting a clinic in Bettendorf or Davenport, to ensure you get the absolute most out of your experience at Quad Cities Aesthetics, a little preparation goes a long way. We've compiled the ultimate pre-facial checklist to guarantee glowing results.

    1. Know Your Current Routine (and Bring It!)

Come prepared to discuss the products you currently use. Take photos of your skincare bottles—cleansers, serums, moisturizers, and sunscreens—if that's easier! Understanding your baseline helps our aestheticians tailor the treatment to your specific needs and identify any ingredients that might be causing irritation or breakouts.

"Your daily habits account for 80% of your skin's health. The professional facial is the 20% boost that pushes your results over the edge."

    2. Skip the Exfoliants and Retinols

Avoid using retinol, Retin-A, AHAs (like glycolic or lactic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid), or physical scrubs for at least 3 to 5 days before your appointment. Professional facials include deep, clinical-grade exfoliation. If your skin is already compromised or over-exfoliated from home products, the professional treatment could cause unnecessary redness or sensitivity.

    3. Avoid Sun Exposure

Sunburned or highly tanned skin cannot be treated with certain active ingredients, chemical peels, or laser treatments. Keep out of direct sun for a week prior to your facial. If you've spent a weekend boating on the Mississippi River, make sure you've worn SPF 50 and a wide-brimmed hat.

    Do This

    • Drink plenty of water the day before.
    • Come with a clean face if possible (though we will cleanse it!).
    • Write down your top 3 skin concerns.
    • Wear comfortable clothing.

    Avoid This

    • Don't wax your face 48 hours prior.
    • Don't pick at blemishes before arriving.
    • Avoid Botox or dermal fillers within 2 weeks prior.
    • Skip heavy makeup on the day of the appointment.

    4. Be Honest About Your Medical History

During your intake, you'll be asked about medications, allergies, and pregnancy. Be completely transparent. Certain medications (like Accutane or antibiotics) dramatically thin the skin, making some facial modalities unsafe. Pregnancy also rules out specific chemical peels and high-frequency machines.

    5. Plan Your Post-Facial Schedule Wisely

Don't schedule a clinical facial two hours before a major gala or a sweaty gym session. Your skin might be slightly flushed immediately after, and you'll want to leave the professional serums on your skin to absorb fully. Give yourself an evening of relaxation.

    Combining Treatments

Many of our clients in Moline and East Moline love to stack their treatments. While you can't always do a facial on the same day as microneedling, we can create a customized monthly roadmap that cycles through different modalities for maximum impact.

Most importantly, come ready to relax. Our clinic is designed to be a sanctuary where you can unwind while we take care of your skin's unique needs.
